Today we'll see if we can get into the ancient Agora (marketplace), which is just to the north of the Acropolis. This afternoon, we'll head over to the National Archeological Museum ...
One thing that's VERY different than when I was last here, circa 1995 ... the air in Athens is clean.
On my first trip, my eyes started burning before the plane had even touched down, and the city was blanketed with Mexico City - class smog. Something here has changed -- I hear tell of heavy industry shut down or relocated, smog controls on the vehicles -- I don't know what -- but this another thing that has definitely changed for the better.

Athens could obviously teach California a thing or two. Looking down on Lake Elsinore (Riverside) CA yesterday from the Hwy 74 summit, I could just barely see the San Jacinto mountain range about 15 miles away. Smog City lives on, thank you Los Angeles! And I grew up in that muck.
